　ロサンジェルスから車で２時間ほどのリゾート地にある屋外劇場でのコンサート。屋外だったこともあり、少し音が散ってしまい弱く感じたのが残念。始まって直ぐに、１列目真ん中にいた私とメル(友人)に向かって顔を突き出したモリシーが「ベロベロバー」というような変顔をかましてくれた。「Sister, I'm Poet」や「The Loop」といった初期の名曲が聴けたのは感無量。（レポートは準備中）。

　ロサンジェルスには徹夜組がいた。英国では早朝から並ぶ者はいても、徹夜する者はおそらく誰一人いない。きっと英国は寒すぎるからだとメルは言うが、秋のロスだって夜は充分に冷え込む。防寒着を持ってこなかった私は、この一晩を会場前に停めたメルの車で明かしてギブアップ（メルには本当に面倒をかけた。ごめんなさい）。夜中に近くのデニーズまで走ってトイレを借りに行った時が一番怖かった。以降は、メルが車で夜を明かして朝になってから私と交代し、一旦家に戻ってシャワーを浴びたりするといった方法を取ることにした。

　私は１列目左側から観た。メルは反対の右側だ（彼女は、本当は右側が嫌いなのだが）。サンタバーバラではほんの少し演奏のテンションに失望したが、ここではだいぶ持ち直している。前回は、やはり屋外劇場の音響が悪かったせいもあったのだろう。

　噂では「ロスの客は荒っぽい」と聞いていたが、そうでもない。結構おとなしいんじゃないか？と思った……が、この日は月曜日。本当の熱気を感じるのは週末のショーまで待たねばならない。
